Verizon backs Apple in battle with U.S. authorities over device encryption

As some of you may have heard, there’s a big battle going on between Apple and U.S. authorities right now over device encryption. Verizon’s Chief Executive Lowell McAdam just stated that Verizon favors  “strong encryption with no backdoors.”

In case you don’t know about the case, here’s what it’s all about. Apple was asked by a federal judge to figure out a unique way to unlock a user’s iPhone and retrieve its data. The locked iPhone belonged to Syed Rizwan Farook, who was one of the killed shooters in the San Bernardino incident. While it’s possible to unlock the iPhone by building a new operating system, Apple denied to unlock the smartphone because of privacy issues. By unlocking the phone, it would open up the so-called ‘backdoor.’

Earlier in the week, CEO of Google Sundar Pichai spoke up and expressed his feelings on Twitter. Just like Google, Verizon is siding with Apple’s stance on the issue. Companies across the globe are expressing their opinions on the case, which is adding much attention. The verdict of this case is going to a big one, one that I’m sure a lot of people are anxious to find out.
