According to The Information, Facebook Messenger is set to be updated with a host of new features, including the ability to buy store items through the app.
The news, surfacing after some folk at The Information got their hands on Messenger’s latest iPhone coding, offers up a particularly interesting glimpse at the future of Facebook. Judging by what the technology publication is reporting, there’s plenty of changes coming to Facebook’s mobile app that’ll raise some eyebrows.
Whilst the Messenger app already lets you send money to friends and family, it looks like Facebook could be further expanding the ways it handles money through the app.
This latest report claims that Facebook will be bringing store purchases to Messenger, meaning app users can buy items directly through the app. Whether or not Facebook will be teaming up with another company or working alone on its payment system remains to be seen, however.
Meanwhile, The Information also mentions a ‘secret conversations’ feature, which could either relate to encrypted chats or being able to hide certain messages from contacts or devices. Details are scarce here but there’s still some interesting ideas floating around.
Other Messenger features mentioned in the iPhone code include calendar sync for events, along with the ability to share content with a select group of friends.
Of the potential updates mentioned, Facebook’s rumored plans related to the mobile payment sector are arguably the most interesting. We’ll have our eyes peeled on the Facebook camp to catch more news on mobile payments through Messenger.
