As we move yet another day closer to HTC’s on-line reveal event for the new HTC 10 flagship smartphone, the company has released a new teaser image. The latest image is titled “Performance” and in their tweet, HTC claims this will provide the “fastest and smoothest Android” yet. Whether HTC succeeds with that or not, it does look like one big change is coming for the device.
The claim regarding performance may be backed up if some recent AnTuTu benchmark scores are accurate as they show the HTC 10 outperforming other leading devices. For Android devices, most of the flagships being released this year are using the same Snapdragon 820 chip that HTC will be using. Hopefully they will share a little bit on what kind of tweaking they did to squeeze out so much more performance compared to their competitors.
In terms of design, the main thing the new teaser image reveals to us is the presence of capacitive buttons located in the bottom bezel sandwiching the home button. That will be a bit of a departure for HTC to move away from on-screen buttons, although it may help them slim down the overall bezel area. Large bezels on HTC devices have been a source of annoyance for many in recent years.
The one thing that many are complaining about in the new image is the lack of a forward facing speaker. HTC did gain some fans in the past with their BoomSound front-facing speakers. The company has even hinted that BoomSound may be coming back with the HTC 10. However, the lack of a front-facing speaker grill in this latest image has many scratching their heads as to how HTC is going to provide a quality sound experience without any apparent speakers on the front of the smartphone.
HTC’s new image also reveals a chamfered look on the edge of the device. This appears to match a similar design cue spotted in some images of replacement back covers.
