Google launched native fingerprint support on Android 6.0 with its fingerprint API. Bank of America has now jumped on board and taken advantage of it allowing sign-in with fingerprint in its Android app.
At Google I/O last year, there were demos showing off how exactly native fingerprint support worked together with Android Pay for wireless payments. Since then, dozens of manufacturers have incorporated scanners into their devices to take advantage of Google’s API. This API allows companies to embed fingerprint functionality into their apps, which can then be used by me and you if given permission.
The latest version of Bank of America’s Android app incorporates Google’s fingerprint API. Users can now sign-in to their account(s) on their device using just a touch of the finger. This is the first bank we’ve seen take advantage of the API. You’ll no longer have to remember a passcode to type-in each and every time you want access to your account. However, if you’re a strong believer in security, the choice is still there.
