Samsung’s April Fools prank was actually a Gear S2 update

Remember Samsung’s big “teaser” yesterday that not-so-subtly hinted at a Galaxy S8? I don’t think anyone actually expected a Galaxy S8 announcement, but Samsung managed to turn the prank into a small Gear S2 update instead of just an empty joke.

Yep, the figure eight in Samsung’s tweet was actually two watches lined up vertically. Pretty clever.

To top it off, though, Samsung also released a small 20 megabyte update for the Gear S2, so we’re still getting something out of it, even if it isn’t a new phone.

At least, we think we’re getting something out of it. The update has the exact same changelog from the last big update Samsung pushed out for the Gear S2, but that update was four times the size of this update. So either someone copy/pasted the changelog when they shouldn’t have, it’s a stability update, or Samsung is trying to sneak something in while there’s still time on April 1st.

Honestly, your best bet is to just stay off the internet on April 1st. We’ll figure everything out tomorrow.
