Hello readers here we are again discussing Reliance Jio. The company has been praised by a huge population in India for a while now because of the free calls and cheapest Data rates offered by them.
Now the company has made the news again for charging the customers for IU i.e. Interconnect Usage. Before we get into the price and what we are getting, lets understand what is IUC!
IUC stands for Interconnect Usage Charge, which is a certain amount of cost that the telecom company has to bear if it’s customer is connecting a customer of another telecom company. This IUC is imposed by the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) and this charge was supposed to end in 2011.
Due to some unprecedented reasons the IUC was continued and was about to end in December 2019. Unfortunately it is not the case again and is supposed to end in 2020 now. From the time Jio has come into the business it has been paying on behalf of the customers. Now it is becoming a load on the company to pay the TRAI imposed IUC.

What Can Be Done?
There’s nothing much which can be done except for signing a petition to remove the imposed charges by TRAI. None the less lets understand what is being charged and for what benefits?
Jio 10 Rs Recharge Plan Details
The TRAI charges are 6 paisa / minute. So for every minute you will be charged 6 paisa. The 6 paisa charge will only be applicable when a call is made to a customer of other than JIO telecom company. The validity of this recharge of 10, 20, 30 rupees will be unlimited so you need not to worry about the same. The calls from Jio to Jio clients will not be charged. The other benefit that comes with this is a 1GB data.
Now some would think that Jio can be recharged only 10 rupees and be used extensively but that would be a big old NO. In order to call other jio customers you will have to recharge the phone separately since the 10 rupees charge is only for the IU calls.
Jio 10 Rs Recharge Plan IUC = 124 Minutes calling (Jio to other network) + 1 GB Free for 1 month
Apart from 10 Rs plan, Jio has launched several other plans too:
- Jio 20 Rs Recharge Plan IUS = 249 Minutes calling (Jio to other network) + 2 GB Free for 1 month
- Jio 50 Rs Recharge Plan IUS = 656 Minutes calling (Jio to other network) + 5 GB Free for 1 month
- Jio 100 Rs Recharge Plan IUS = 1362 Minutes calling (Jio to other network) + 10 GB Free for 1 month

Bottom-Line
Company is not being unfair on the customers and is also not in the greed to earn money out of it. It’s just the charges that are being imposed by TRAI which we will be paying from now.
