Setting an irony, the telecom giant that had brought a complete revolution in the Indian Telecom ecosystem, by reducing the data monopoly of some other telecom companies, the Reliance Jio is now all set to charge 6 p/min for all the outgoing calls.
This has been done to cut down the expenses of Jio due to the IUC (Inter-connect usage charge ). Jio is apparently upset with Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ( TRAI ) on not allowing free inter-networks calling. This step of Jio however isn’t applicable for Jio-to-Jio calling. But if you’re making your calls to networks such as Idea and Airtel, you’ll have ro get the extra calling IUC-personalised packs.
What is an IUC?
IUC, the interconnect usage charge is the amount an operator needs to pay the operator that is being requested to allow the calls. Jio says it’s adding to their losses and that the people should pay the charge by themselves until TRAI completely removes the IUC.

- Rs 10 – 124 mins
- Rs 20 – 249 mins
- Rs 50 – 656 mins
- Rs 100 – 1362 mins
One thing that is to be noted is the charge is only being levied for off-net calls. You’re free to use WhatsApp and other internet callings.

What you can now do is hope that the TRAI discontinues the IUC charge. Or you can also prefer internet calling. If however you need to make calls via phone, and are someone who just switched from other networks to Jio, we don’t really have much encouraging news in this article.
