It is time we talk about an app, that’s meant for all speed-dials including women safety prioritised. This app, called India 112, gives you an immediate response, sending your location details and everything else to corresponding authorities, for police, fire, women safety and other services.

The government launched this app in mid 2019, with prime focus on women and children safety, citing its use for fast response by the nearby police authority. This app, when appealed for an emergency dials a number 112, which you can use to explain or just send an SOS call at your location.

- Press power button thrice consecutively. It dials 112. (Works on all smartphones).
- If you don’t have a smartphone, press 5 or 9 key, and press the dialer.
The SHOUT scheme
With everything that’s happening in the country, this was a must. If you’re a woman living in some metro, we recommend you go to the app to find the SHOUT scheme and get yourself registered. SHOUT, which is for support to women and children, alerts the government volunteers and agencies nearby, when needed and they’ll reach out to you for support, 24/7.
To enable the smooth functioning of the scheme and app, each state has been directed to set up an Emergency Response Centre (ERC), meant exclusively for India 112.
