We’re just days away from the LG G5 going on sale worldwide, and the company is pushing out television advertisements teasing the phone’s arrival. Last week, Jason Statham quietly appeared in a brief 30-second spot where the actor inserts a battery into the G5. Now he’s is back in another television ad disguised as he’s taking a picture or recording video with the LG CAM Plus module connected to the G5.
Fittingly sneaky, right? Hit the break to watch the ad.
The ad starts with the actor inserting the LG CAM Plus into the G5 before taking aim at a dancer outside a café. And… Never mind. That’s literally all that happens. Oh, Statham is also dressed as a woman. So is the guy sitting next to him.
During our podcast last week, we covered the underwhelming promotion LG gives its devices. The only one to ever get considerable promotion was the LG V10. That phone was pushed with a sizable campaign headed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
After seeing the latest G5 ad, it’s clear LG is able to get recognizable faces. It’s just the execution that makes for head-scratching. However, the recent Low Battery Anxiety ad with Brian Huskey was witty. LG should keep running with that type of humor.
