We were anticipating the LG G5 to have a locked bootloader after seeing such on the Galaxy S7 models. However, this is not the case for a T-Mobile LG G5.
A string has exploded on XDA-Developers about a T-Mobile LG G5 unit. Unlike Samsung’s new flagship smartphones, a user reported proof that the G5’s bootloader is indeed unlockable. This means that rooting the G5 will work if you know the process to it. In fact, one user wrote in that the process is just as simple as rooting a Nexus device.
Both LG and T-Mobile appear to be on the same page that the G5 should be as user-friendly as possible. If you are into rooting and such, things are looking promising for the LG G5. The only thing you’ll have to wait for before you’re able to root is the TWRP recovery for this device. Hopefully T-Mobile and Samsung will agree on the terms and follow that of what the carrier has done with LG. Time will tell.
